The horse

My name is Claudia, I am in 4th ESO and I going to talk about one of my favorite things: The Horse.

First I will talk a little about the history of the horse and modern horses.

Then I will go on to explain the different types of horses and kinds of movement. And finally I will talk about horses age.

Did you know that?
The horse was first domesticated around 4.580 BC. The first horse was called Przewalski's horse and it was very small (1,50 m high).

Horses were used by man to pull heavy objects.
They were also used in warfare to pull chariots – for example the Romans – and to carry knights into battle in the middle ages.

Horses are hot-bloods, used in racing and cold-bloods. The hot-bloods are fast and intelligent. For example: Arabian and Thoroughbred. The cold-bloods are strong and calm. They are used to pull heavy things. For example: Clydesdale and Belgian.

The horse has 3 basic movements:
The walk
The canter or trot.
The gallop. An average gallop is 40-48 km per hour. When, a horse gallops it lifts all 4 legs off the ground for a split second.

Age:
The horse today lives from 25 to 30 years. However, a horse “Old Billy” lived to the age of 62 in the 19h-century.
Sugar Puff, the world's oldest living pony in the Guinness Book of world Records, died in 2007, aged 56.

To finish, I will say that horses have been good friends of man, and they are now also. Are there any questions?

A letter: explaining a problem

I've had a problem recently. My friends Peter and Ann are going out at weekends.
I'm worried because Peter is really in love, but I know that Ann isn't really interested and she flirts with other boys at school. I think the ideal solution for me is to talk to Ann and explain to her that she may hurt Peter because he is very nice and sensitive. However, Ann is my friend and she might be angry with me. But maybe I could talk to Peter and say that Ann is flirting with other boys.
I'd really like some advice because I don't know who I should talk to first.

Writing: A discussion essay

The Internet has changed the world in last 10 or 15 years. Before Internet was invented people wrote letters, not e-mails and they used books and libraries more. How, people can download film and music, search for information, search for books and write e-mails. The information in books is usually true, however, you have to buy books or go to the libraries. Internet, on the other hand, is fast and it is at home, but not all the information is correct. All in all, I think that books is the better invention because most of the information in Internet comes from books.

A profile of a band

Jonas Brothers was formed in Wyckoff, New Jersey in 2002. The original numbers were Nicholas Jerry Jonas (vocals, guitar, drums and piano), Joseph Adam Jonas (vocals) and Paul Kevin Jonas II (vocals and guitar).
Jonas Brothers' first album (it's about Time) was released by a Columbia record company in 2005-2006. Their second album, Jonas Brothers, was released by a Hollywood records company in 2007. In the first week there were sold more than 200 copies. Their third album, A little Bit Longer, in 2008.
Jonas Brothers play rock. Some of their best-known songs are S.O.S., Hold on and When You Look Me in the Eyes. The band has won a lot of prizes for their music and videos. In 2008 they were nominated Breakthrough Artist, Miglior Band (Best Band)... They won Tormentone Dell'anno (Most Addictive Track) for “S.O.S.” And they won “Song of the years” for “When You Look Me in the Eyes”. And many more.

What's the first story in the film?

The first story in the film is the pop singer who wants to have the Cristmas hit record. He makes mistakes when he sings; he sungs "love" is all around and not "Christmas".

Can you name the cast of characters and storylines?

The Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) and Natalie (Martine McCutcheon)

David, the Prime Minister, falls in love with Natalie who is a worker in his office.

David likes Natalie but tries not to fall in love with her. The President of the USA likes her and then David says he does not agree with him in a press conference. He moves Natalie from his office to forget her. Then at Christmas he reads a card from her. It says she is his and he is very happy. He goes to find her at home and they go to the school play. They see the show and they kiss so everyboody knows they are in love.

Billy Mack is trying to make a song hit for Christmas -Christmas is All Around- for his manager.

Billy Mack is an old singer but he is making a new version of a song to be a hit for Christmas. His manager is kind and patient. Billy records the new song and it is the Christmas hit so he sings it naked on television like he promised. Later he comes to Joe's home to be with him at Christmas because he is a good friend and they have worked and travelled together for many years.

Juliet and Peter are getting married but Mark, who is Peter's best friend, also love Juliet.

Peter marries Juliet and Mark gives them a surprise at the wedding with special music. They are very happy but Mark is sad because he loves Juliet, too. Juliet asks him for a video of the wedding and she sees the photos are of her and that he loves her. At christmas Mark comes to her home with cards and says she is perfect. She kisses him and leaves and Mark says it is enough now.

Sarah works in an office with Karl and she loves him but does not say anythink.

Sarah and Karl work in the same company and they like each other but do not say anythink. At the christmas party they dance and talk. Later they go home together but Sarah has a brother who is mentally ill and he phones her many times. Karl decides to leave and Sarah goes to see her brother at a hospital for Christmas and does not see Karl. So they love each other but it ends badly.

She only speaks Portuguese and he speaks only English but they like each other slowly. He goes to England for Christmas and learns Portuguese and in France she studies English. He goes back to France for Christmas and asks her to marry him in a restaurant where she works. She says yes and they are very happy with her family too.

Harry is the boss in a company and Mia is his secretary who likes him but his wife does not know.

Karen and Harry have two children who are acting in a Christmas show. But Mia likes Harry and asks him for a nice present. He buys a gold necklace for her in a big shop. His wife sees it in his pocket and thinks it is for me. She is very sad when he gives her a CD by Joni Mitchell and not the necklace. But Harry and Karen go to children's show where Karen says she knows he gave Mia the gold necklace. She is very unhappy and cries because he made a fool of her. Perhaps they separate but at the end they meet again at the airport so it ends well.

Daniel (Liam Neeson) and Sam (Thomas Sangster) and Joanna (Olivia Olson)

Daniel's wife has died and his stepson Sam is very sad because he loves a girl at school called Joanna.

Sam wants Olivia to notice him so his father says he could play music for the school show because girls like musicians. So Sam learns to play the drums for the school concert. He plays every day and it is hard for his father, Daniel. Joanna sings a song in the concert but she does not see Sam play the drums. After Sam and his Father go to the airport to say goodbye to Joanna who is going to the USA.Sam runs in the airport to catch Joanna and says he loves her and she gives him a kiss. Daniel meets Carol (Claudia Schiffer) at the school show.

John and Judy do sex scenes for a movie. They do not know each other but have to be naked. They do this in front of the cameras and director but they do not feel strange, they like to talk about things and they start to like each other. In the end Judy is wearing an engagement ring.

Colin cannot find a girlfriend in England so he tells his friend he is going to America because the girls will like him more because he is English. His friend does not agree but he goes. There in a bar in America he finds four pretty girls who take him home to their bed. He goes back to England with one, Harriet, and another girl for his friend Tony.

The stories take place at Christmas time in London.

What's your favourite story? Why?

My favourite is the one of Peter Juliet and Mark.

The reason is Mark loves Juliet, but he can't have her because she is married to his best friend Peter.

What's the best moment in the film for you? Why?

The best moment is when Mark goes to Juliet house with cassette of Christmas songs and tells Juliet he loves her with his cards. He doesn't say anything.

Do you like the film?

Yes, I do. I liked because it's very romantic.

Do you like the music?

Yes, I do.

What's the best song for you?

The best song for me is "Jump (for My Love)" by Girls Aloud. Because the Prime Minister dancers.
